Задача

Read an extract from John’s letter to a youth magazine. Write him an answer.

  • Explain what the concept of lifelong learning means.
  • Explain how a person can benefit from lifelong learning.
  • Explain how a person’s career can be affected if he stops learning.
  • Say if you personally feel positive or negative about the opportunity/necessity to learn for so long.

I have to admit that I’ve never considered learning an enjoyable process. There are loads of other things in the world I would do rather than do lessons. The concept of lifelong learning sounds a bit frightening to me. Do you really think that I’ll have to study all my life and there is no way to escape it?

Подробный ответ

Dear John,

Thank you for your letter. I understand why the idea of lifelong learning may sound frightening, but in fact it is a normal part of modern life.

Lifelong learning means continuing to learn new things throughout your whole life, not only at school or university. People can learn at work, in courses, from books, the Internet, and even from everyday experience.

A person can benefit from lifelong learning in many ways. It helps us improve our skills, stay informed, adapt to changes, and find better job opportunities. Learning new things also makes life more interesting and helps us feel more confident.

If a person stops learning, his career may suffer. He may lose important skills, become less competitive, and find it harder to get a good job or keep up with new technologies.

As for me, I feel positive about lifelong learning. I think it is necessary, because the world is changing all the time, and we need to keep developing ourselves.

Best wishes,
Alex
