E-learning and traditional learning have some things in common. In both cases, students visit an education website or attend classes, complete assignments, do self-tests, and learn new material. In both modes, they need to be responsible and organised.
Traditional learning has some advantages. Students attend classes in person, interact with teachers face-to-face, get immediate feedback, understand body language, take part in group discussions, and develop a sense of community. They can also feel school pride and practise public speaking in front of a group. However, it has disadvantages too: students have to commute, and classroom time is limited.
E-learning also has its advantages. Students can access learning materials via the Internet, watch recorded lectures, take a distance learning course, build online reading and writing skills, be assessed on their portfolio, and be allocated a tutor. They can organise their own learning and take part in virtual forums. But e-learning has some disadvantages: students must be self-motivated, and they may have less social interaction and fewer opportunities to interact with teachers face-to-face.
