Work in pairs. Read the dictionary entry for the word “tradition”. Give examples of traditions that are important where you live.

Tradition — a) old customs, beliefs, or stories that are handed down. She chose to become a doctor which was their family tradition; b) an activity that happens regularly and has become the expectation. My extended family has a tradition of having reunions every summer.

One important tradition where I live is celebrating New Year with the whole family. We usually have a big dinner, decorate the house and give presents to each other.

Another tradition is celebrating birthdays with relatives and friends. We always make a cake, sing a birthday song and wish the person happiness and health.

These traditions are important because they bring people together and make family life warmer and happier.
