Work in pairs. Read these medical jokes to each other. Do you find them funny? Why? / Why not?

«Doctor, please hurry. My son swallowed a razor blade.»

«Don’t panic, I’m coming immediately. Have you done anything yet?»

«Yeah, I shaved with the electric razor.»

«Doctor, doctor, will I be able to play the violin after the operation?»

«Yes, of course…»

«Great! I never could before!»

These jokes are funny because they use unexpected meanings and surprise endings.

1. The first joke is funny because the doctor thinks the boy swallowed a real razor blade, but in fact he only used an electric razor to shave.
2. The second joke is funny because the man says he will be able to play the violin after the operation, and then adds that he never could before. So the operation is not the real reason for his success.

Both jokes are based on misunderstanding and irony.
