Blog is short for weblog (just as website is short for web site). It is usually a kind of online diary or comments posted by a blogger, a person who writes a blog. To blog means to add content to a blog.

Bloggers write about their experiences, post photos, videos or music that have impressed them and that they want to share with others. One of the main features of a blog is its publicity, and readers can leave comments, start discussions or offer help.

Bloggers share their personal lives with others, but they can remain anonymous. Instead of real names and photos, bloggers often use nicknames and avatars, which become their identity in cyberspace.

Bloggers form social networks and communities called the blogosphere. No matter the distance, money, race or social status, bloggers can get in touch with anyone in the world.

A New York taxi driver can become Brad Pitt’s favourite blogger, and a housewife’s life can get more attention than the latest celebrity marriage. Some blogs, read by thousands of people, can become really famous and even be published in books.

Bloggers have become influential writers and political commentators. This way of communication is becoming more and more popular. Even the president of a country finds time to write in his own blog and share his thoughts with other bloggers.
