Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to apply for the part-time sales assistant job which was advertised in last Saturday’s issue of the St Petersburg News.

At the moment I am a fourth-year student at the College of Design, and I am studying Fashion Creation and Design. I want to produce and sell clothes of my own design, but first I would like to gain first-hand experience of selling clothes. I believe that by doing this, I will understand more fully what women look for when they buy clothes. Thus, I will be able to understand customers’ needs and design clothes that are more popular.

I often pass your shop and admire the clothes in the window, so it would be a wonderful experience to be able to help sell them. I have experience of selling in a shop near my parents’ home, and I would be very grateful for the opportunity of an interview.
