Write your own report on the experiment you did in Ex. 1 or you read about in Ex. 2B.
You should write up your experiment under these headings:
Aim
Why did you do the experiment?
What hypothesis were you testing?Method
What did you do, and how did you do it?
Give labelled diagrams where these help to explain what you did.
Remember to include details of the control.Results
As you carried out your experiment, you observed things and perhaps made measurements. These are the results.
Put the results together in a table where appropriate.
Present the results in the form of a graph where useful.Interpretation
What do the results mean?
Do they show any kind of a pattern?Conclusions
Do your results answer your original question?
Do they support your hypothesis?
The experiment report should be written under the following headings:
- Aim — why you did the experiment and what hypothesis you were testing.
- Method — what you did and how you did it, including details of the control and labelled diagrams if needed.
- Results — what you observed and measured; it is often useful to present the results in a table or graph.
- Interpretation — what the results mean and whether they show any pattern.
- Conclusions — whether the results answer the original question and support the hypothesis.
Key idea: a negative result in science is still a result.
