The students from the book Her Honor, Katie Shannon by Betsy Haynes complain about the school rules and sometimes break them. The principal (директор школы) sends them to Teen Court.

“All right, everyone. In about fifteen minutes we should have our first case, but let’s talk about how we’re going to run our court,” Mrs Brenner said. “This is how it’s going to work. Anyone who has had a complaint filed against him or her by a teacher or administrator will come in with the person who filed the complaint. The person whom the complaint is against will be the defendant, and the person who filed the complaint is called the plaintiff. Both will tell us their story. You should take notes and ask any questions you feel you need to in order to understand the problem thoroughly. We will discuss the rule that has been broken and how justice can be fairly applied. Being a judge is not easy. Now, we need to appoint a senior judge to control the proceedings.”
In Teen Court, the defendant is the student against whom a complaint has been filed, and the plaintiff is the person who filed the complaint. Both of them tell their story. The judges listen carefully, take notes, ask questions, discuss the broken rule and decide how justice should be fairly applied. A senior judge controls the proceedings.
