Some people think that a welfare state helps those who really need support, while others believe that benefits are often given to people who do not need them. Some also say that the welfare state is necessary because it protects poor, sick, unemployed and elderly people.
Mr Reed’s opinion can be supported by examples showing that some benefits are paid to people who do not really need financial help, for example child benefit for middle-class families.
Mr Green’s opinion can be supported by examples showing that welfare benefits help people in difficult situations, such as the unemployed, the sick or families with low income.
Mrs Hope’s opinion can be supported by examples showing that the welfare state is important because it gives people security and helps them live a better life.
I agree that the welfare state is necessary because it helps people who are in real need. However, I also think that benefits should be given more carefully, so that money goes to those who really need it.
