- Some people say that punk culture has features of other subcultures. What are they?
1) Bikers in Russia and abroad have common features: they love motorbikes, wear leather jackets, value freedom, and often look aggressive, though in fact they are usually not dangerous. Hippies in Russia and abroad share the same ideals: peace, love, freedom of self-expression, and nonconformity.
2) Hippies in Russia are more socially active than hippies abroad. They take part in environmental groups and charity projects. Bikers in Russia and abroad are very similar, but Russian bikers are especially famous for their clubs and heavy bikes.
3) Ravers here and abroad are similar because they like modern music, parties, dancing, and a free way of life. They often want to express themselves and be part of a youth community.
4) The skinhead movement in Russia differs from the skinhead subculture in Britain quite a lot. In Britain skinheads were originally a working-class youth subculture, while in Russia the movement is often connected with aggression and extremist ideas.
5) I am like an average Russian teenager in some ways: I like spending time with friends, listening to music, and using modern technology. But I am different because I may have my own interests and views.
6) Punk culture has features of other subcultures such as nonconformity, a desire for freedom, protest against society, and a bright, unusual appearance.
