WRITING
You’ve got an e-mail letter from your British friend who is getting ready for the quiz “Across Russia”. She/he wants to know:
- what political system Russia belongs to;
- when the Russian Constitution was adopted;
- where the Government and the President sit;
- what the origin of the word “Duma” is;
- if there is any relation between the Federal Assembly and the Federal Council.
Write a letter to your British friend with answers to her/his questions (100–120 words). Remember to write the letter in the correct way.
Dear friend,
Thanks for your e-mail. I’m glad to answer your questions about Russia.
Russia is a federal semi-presidential republic. The Russian Constitution was adopted on December 12, 1993. The Government sits in the White House in Moscow, and the President works in the Kremlin. The word “Duma” comes from the Russian verb dumat, which means “to think”. As for the Federal Assembly and the Federal Council, the Federal Council is one of the two chambers of the Federal Assembly, so they are closely connected.
Best wishes,
…
