I have come across a similar belief in my culture. Orthodox Christians believe that during the first two days after death, the soul enjoys relative freedom and can visit any place on Earth. On the third day, it moves to the next world, goes through various ordeals and comes to God to worship Him. Then the soul wanders in Heaven and visits holy monasteries for six days. It spends thirty days in Hell. Finally, on the fortieth day, a special judgement determines the soul’s fate in the afterlife until Doomsday.
