A. The work of an architect depends a lot on those who commission buildings. In most cases, architects are not completely free to choose everything. The client usually decides the purpose of the building, the budget and often the location. The size of the building is also limited by money and by the site. The style may be discussed together with the client, but it is not always chosen freely. The material depends on the budget, safety rules and local conditions. The decoration is usually the part where the architect has more freedom, but even here the client’s wishes are important.
B. Yes, the proverb “He who pays the piper calls the tune” has grounds. If a person pays for a building, he or she usually wants to influence the result. However, a good architect can still suggest the best solution and explain why some ideas are better than others.
