Michelangelo was an Italian artist of the Renaissance. He was a sculptor, painter, architect and poet. He created some of the greatest works of art in the world, including the statue of David and the paintings on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican.

Florence was very important in his life: he studied and worked there in his youth. Rome was another key city for him, because he spent many years there and received major commissions from the popes.

Some famous Italian places connected with Michelangelo are Florence, Rome, the Vatican and the Sistine Chapel. His works of art are admired all over the world and are considered masterpieces of Italian art.
