In Haliford, life is quiet, slow and rather dull. It is a small market town with few jobs, many closed mills and an ageing population. People probably know each other well, and there is not much entertainment or change.
In London, the lifestyle is much faster, busier and more exciting. There are more opportunities for work, study, shopping and leisure, but life is also more stressful and crowded.
Many people move to big cities because they want better jobs, higher salaries, education, entertainment and a more active social life. Some people leave big cities for small places because they are tired of noise, pollution, traffic and stress, and want a quieter, safer and more peaceful life.
