Human rights are the basic rights and freedoms that every person has simply because they are human. They are for everyone, without exception. They are important because they protect people’s dignity, freedom and safety.

The Declaration of Human Rights is an official document that lists and explains these rights. It was created to make sure that all people are treated fairly and equally.
