- Steps for writing stories
- Decide
- when & where the story takes place
- who the main characters are & what they are like
- your basic plotline (make a list of the main events in the order they happen)
- what your climax event will be
- what you will include in each paragraph
- how the characters feel in the end
- Write
- an interesting beginning that sets the scene and attracts the attention of the reader
- a main body that describes the development of your story
- an ending that will leave a lasting impression on your reader
- Check that
- your story has a clear beginning, main body and ending
- you have used appropriate tenses throughout
- you have included appropriate linking/sequencing words
- you have used language that is vivid and descriptive i.e. more complex
- you have made use of some narrative techniques such as similes, metaphors, alliteration etc
- you have included some direct speech to liven up your story
- your spelling, punctuation & grammar are correct
Story 1
It was a cold, windy evening when I got lost in the forest near my grandparents’ house. The trees were swaying wildly, and the path had almost disappeared under the fallen leaves. I had only gone out for a short walk, but now I was alone and frightened.
Suddenly, I heard a faint cry for help. I stopped and listened carefully. “Is anybody there?” I shouted, my voice trembling. The cry came again, this time louder. Following the sound, I found a small boy sitting under a tree, crying because he had twisted his ankle.
I helped him stand up and supported him as we slowly made our way through the dark forest. “Don’t worry,” I said, trying to sound calm. “We’ll get out of here together.” After what felt like hours, we finally saw the lights of a nearby house. The boy’s mother rushed out and hugged him tightly.
In the end, I was relieved and proud that I had not panicked. That night taught me that even in a scary situation, kindness and courage can make all the difference.
