Water pollution is a serious problem because it harms people, animals, and plants. Dirty water can spread diseases and make rivers, lakes, and seas unsafe for living things. It also destroys natural habitats and damages the environment.

Water is polluted in many ways. Factories often pour waste into rivers and seas. Farmers use chemicals and fertilizers that wash into the water after rain. People also throw rubbish, plastic, and oil into the water. In some places, untreated sewage gets into rivers and lakes too.

We can reduce water pollution in several ways. First, we should never throw litter into rivers, lakes, or the sea. Second, we should save water and use it carefully. Third, we can recycle plastic and other waste so that less rubbish ends up in the water. Governments and factories should also treat waste properly before releasing it.
