1. Read the theory box, then find examples of some of the different narrative techniques used in the story in Ex. 2.

The story in Ex. 2 includes these narrative techniques:

• Variety of more complex adjectives/adverbs: terrified, uncontrollably
• More descriptive verbs: exclaimed, threatened, shouted, stared, dashed
• Using the senses: The leaves crackled under my feet
• Alliteration: safe and sound
• Simile: as thin as a rake
• Metaphor: a heart of stone
• Present/past participles: Shaking with cold, he wrapped a blanket around himself; Terrified, she ran away as fast as she could
• Hyperbole: after what seemed like an eternity; he was so hungry he could eat a horse
• Phrases showing feelings: giggled with delight
