Read the rubrics and find the key words. What do you have to write about in each case? What is your opinion? Give reasons.
Comment on the following statements:
A. All teenagers should help with household chores.
B. It is a good idea for a child to look after a pet from a young age.
What is your opinion? Do you agree? Write 200–250 words. Use the following plan:
- make an introduction (state the problem);
- express your personal opinion and give 2–3 reasons for your opinion;
- express an opposing opinion and give 1–2 reasons for this opposing opinion;
- explain why you don’t agree with the opposing opinion;
- make a conclusion restating your position.
A) The key words are: magazine, opinions, all teenagers, help with household chores, write an essay, reasons/examples, point of view.
You have to write an essay about whether all teenagers should help with household chores and support your opinion with reasons and examples.
B) The key words are: class discussion, good idea, child, look after a pet, from a young age, write an essay, state your opinion, reasons/examples.
You have to write an essay about whether it is a good idea for a child to look after a pet from a young age and explain your opinion with reasons and examples.
My opinion: I agree with both statements. Teenagers should help with household chores because it teaches responsibility and helps the family. A child can also learn to look after a pet from a young age, as it develops kindness, care and discipline.
