Listening Task 2
Preparing for the task
3 Read the statements and the underlined key words. Then, read the extract from a dialogue and decide if the statements are T (true), F (false) or NS (not stated). Explain words/phrases in the dialogue helped you decide.
A Nick doesn’t want to go abroad this summer.
B Lisa always books her holidays through the Internet
C Nick will ask Jane to help him look for a holiday destination.
Nick: Jane had the bright idea of going abroad for our summer holidays and she’s asked me to suggest some destinations. But I’ve been so busy that I haven’t even got around to looking yet.
Lisa: Oh come on! How can you not make time for something that’s so much fun? All you have to do is go online, browse through travel sites and gaze at pictures of exotic places!
Nick: Or I can go to a travel agent and get some recommendations from a professional.
Lisa: You could, but picking and choosing on your own is half the fun, I think! A travel agent seems too impersonal.
Nick: I suppose you’re right. I’ll sit in front of my PC tonight and have a look, then. I’ll get Jane to join in the search too!
4 You will hear a dialogue. Decide which of the given statements A-G correspond with the contents of the text (1 – True) which do not correspond (2 – False) and which are not given in the text (3 – Not stated). Put the number of the chosen statement into the table. You will hear the recording twice.

B Ben knows what clubs Isla wants to join
C Isla is the school chess champion.
D Joining the school paper could help them apply to university.
E Isla doesn’t feel comfortable talking to a lot of people.
F Ben will not be taking part in any more athletics competitions.
G Isla thinks Ben is putting too much pressure on her.
Listening Task 3
Preparing for the task
5 Read the question, focusing on the underlined words. Now read the script. What is the correct answer? Which words/phrases helped you decide?
1 the high salary she earns
2 meeting famous people
3 the public recognition of her work
Interviewer: What do you like most about your job?
Millie: You’d think it’s getting to be close to all those celebrities. That’s what most people believe, anyway. Seeing the results of my work in public is what does it for me, though. Hearing actors and other celebs giving interviews all over the world, thanking their personal trainer – that’s me! – for helping them stay healthy and in good shape is truly rewarding. The money is good too!
6 You will hear an interview. In tasks 1-7 out number 1, 2 or 3 into the answer box that corresponds with the answer you have chosen. You will hear the recording twice.
