Travelling is certainly an enjoyable activity. It benefits the tourists, as they get to see extraordinary sights and learn different things about the places they visit. It also aids a country’s economy. Every year, tourists spend large amounts of money on accommodation, food and drink, entertainment and so on. This means a significant boost in the host country’s income.
2 Imagine that you are preparing a project with your friend. You have found some interesting material for the presentation and you want to read this text to your friend. You have 1.5 minutes to read the text silently, then be ready to read it out aloud. You will not have more than 1.5 minutes to read it.
Ecotourism. ecotravel, ecolodges and generally being ‘eco’ have become popular tourism sales pitches. But what is ecotourism and why is it such a great thing, anyway? The International Ecotourism Society defines ecotourism as ‘responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment and improves the welfare of local people’. The idea behind this type of tourism is to lessen the damage regular tourism causes to a place. Hotels, walking trails, transport facilities and other things that are built to cater for tourists’ needs can harm the environment. Ecotourism tries to lessen these negative effects. It does so by using either recyclable materials or local building materials. Other ways ecotourism attempts to lessen the negative impact of regular tourism include the use of renewable energy sources as well as sate disposal of waste and rubbish. Also, when constructing the architectural design of the buildings is environmentally and culturally sensitive. Finally, ecotourism aims at educating both tourists and residents of tourist destination on how they can be environmentally responsible holidaymakers and hosts.

Подробный ответ

1. BHow long does the journey last? (спрашиваем о длительности).

2. AHow many students are there in the class? (после how many нужен полный вопрос).

3. AWhere does the tour depart from? (вопрос построен правильно).

Possible questions for the advertisement:

  1. What are your opening days and hours?
  2. Do you make overseas deliveries?
  3. How much do your bouquets cost on average?
  4. What payment options do you offer?
  5. Is it possible to order online?

Possible answers for Task 7:

1) Both of the activities are taking place outdoors. The girls in the first picture seem to be involved in a beach clean-up day, while the men in the second picture are building what looks to be a small house. It could be a shelter for the homeless, or a house for people who have lost their home in a natural disaster. What the pictures have in common is that they show volunteer activities. However, picking litter from the beach seems a less physically demanding activity. Judging by the girls’ smiles, it looks like a more enjoyable activity too. On the other hand, constructing a house requires hard physical labour and it also takes much more time to build a house than to clean a beach.

Sample answer for Task 8:

I’ve chosen photo number 1. In the photo, I can see a group of young people cleaning a beach. They are outdoors, and they are collecting litter into bags. The picture shows a volunteer activity, so both photos are about helping other people or the environment. The main difference is that in the first photo the people are cleaning the beach, while in the second photo they are building a house. I think beach clean-up is easier and less tiring than construction work. I would choose to work part-time in beach cleaning because it is useful, not too difficult, and it helps keep nature clean. I also think it is a good way to work in a team and do something important for the community.
