THE FOX AHD THE BEAR
One day, Freddy the Fox 1) goes to see Betty the Bear. Betty is in her 2) garden. «Can I use your garden, dear Betty? I want to 3) plant some carrots.» ‘But how can we divide them when they are 4) ready?» Betty asks.
«You can take the 5) tops and I can take the roots,» Freddy answers. Betty agrees and Freddy plants some carrots. 6) when the carrots are ready, Betty calls Freddy. «Come now, Betty,” says Freddy. «Let’s divide the carrots. The tops are for you and the 7) roots are for me.» «This is not fair!» says Betty the Bear. «I cannot 8) eat the tops!» Betty the Bear is very angry.

But Freddy 10) comes again and asks for another favour. «Please, dear Betty,» he says. “Let me 11) use your garden. The Fox and the Bear

One day, Freddy the Fox goes to see Betty the Bear. Betty is in her garden. “Can I use your garden, dear Betty? I want to plant some carrots.”

“But how can we divide them when they are ready?” Betty asks.

“You can take the tops and I can take the roots,” Freddy answers.

Betty agrees and Freddy plants some carrots. When the carrots are ready, Betty calls Freddy. “Come now, Betty,” says Freddy. “Let’s divide the carrots. The tops are for you and the roots are for me.”

“This is not fair!” says Betty the Bear. “I cannot eat the tops!” Betty the Bear is very angry.

“No more favours for Freddy!” she says.

But Freddy comes again and asks for another favour. “Please, dear Betty,” he says. “Let me use your garden. I want to plant some melons.”

“OK,” says Betty, “but this time I want the roots!”

“OK,” says Freddy and he plants some melons. When the melons are ready, Freddy calls Betty. “Let’s share the melons,” he says. He cuts off the melons and puts them in his bag. “You can have the roots.”

Betty is so angry with herself that she goes into her house and doesn’t speak to anyone.

7. The moral of the story is: Don’t be greedy / Greed brings trouble. A similar Russian fairy tale is The Fox and the Crane (Лиса и журавль).

8. One day, Freddy the Fox went to see Betty the Bear. Betty was in her garden. Freddy asked to use the garden to plant some apples. Betty agreed.

When the apples were ready, Freddy said, “Let’s divide them. The apples are for me, and the seeds are for you.” Betty was angry because this was not fair.

Then Betty asked Freddy to use his garden to plant some potatoes. Freddy agreed. When the potatoes were ready, Betty said, “Let’s share them. The potatoes are for me, and the leaves are for you.” Freddy was unhappy.

After that, both of them understood that they should be fair and kind to each other.
