- Choose and read as quickly as you can the words and word combinations referring to the topic “War”: kill, fresh air, separate, protect, a battle, mountains, strong enemy, a bank of the river, a war, a victory, a birch tree, an honest general, an army, noble officers, hospitable.
- Read the text “Russian People” and say what and who Russia is famous for.
- Ask each other questions on the text “Russian People”.
- Give a short summary of the text.

Project Work
7. Work in groups. Make Chapter 7 of your own book called “See What We Can Do in English”. Chapter 7 may include:
- the title of the chapter (connected with the topic “My Country”);
- stories and articles about Russia and its people;
- facts from the lives of famous Russian people;
- colour pictures and photos of Russian towns, its famous people;
- descriptions of Russian symbols;
- your own word games.
Try and use the Internet resources, dictionaries and encyclopaedias. Don’t forget to design and make the cover for your book, number the pages and make the Contents. Compare the books. Decide which of them is the best and why.
1. Russian and American symbols: the Russian flag, the double-headed eagle, the Kremlin, the American flag, the Statue of Liberty, the White House.
2. Everyday life in America and in Russia is similar in many ways: children go to school, people work, travel, read, watch TV and spend time with their families. But there are also differences in food, traditions, holidays and some habits.
3. Russian capitals are Moscow and St Petersburg. Moscow is the capital of Russia now, and St Petersburg was the capital in the past.
4. People say that Russia is a rich country because it has many forests, mountains, rivers, lakes, useful natural resources, important cities, factories and industrial plants.

- St Petersburg. St Petersburg is one of the most beautiful cities in Russia. It is famous for its palaces, bridges, museums and canals. It was founded by Peter the Great.
- The war of 1812. The war of 1812 was the war between Russia and Napoleon’s army. The Russian people and army fought bravely and defended their country.
- The Russian people and their country. Russian people are talented, kind, open and hospitable. Russia is a large and rich country with a great history, beautiful nature and many famous people.
