1. The French children Travelled to York*. Marie is telling Clare about the trip.
1) Did she like the trip? (listening for the main idea)
2) What did Marie and Clare say about York? What verb forms do the girls use when they talk about past actions?
Marie: Have you ever been to York, Clare? Clare: No, I haven’t. But I have read about its history and historical places. And why do you ask?
Marie: We were in York yesterday. It was great!
Clare: Did you go to the Viking Centre*? Marie: Yes, we did. For an hour we were travelling in Time Cars and watching how people lived many years ago. I’ve learnt a lot about the Vikings*.
Clare: How interesting! I’d like to go there, too.

2) The girls say that York is a very interesting place. When they talk about past actions, they use the Past Simple for finished actions in the past and the Present Perfect for actions connected with the present.

In English, past actions are usually described with special verb forms, while in Russian the past tense form is used.
