The first bike with pedals was invented in Scotland in about 1840. Thirty years later, in 1872, the penny farthing, a bike with one big wheel and one small wheel was invented. This bike went faster than the first bike but it was dangerous to ride. Riding a bike is healthy because it is good exercise. It makes your muscles strong and it keeps you thin. It’s healthier than riding in a car because nine tenths of all the poisonous gases in the air in big cities come from cars.
