3. Why do people burn the straw effigy of Maslenitsa? — ‘Maslenitsa’ is a symbol of winter, so when people burn its straw effigy they say good-bye to winter till next year.
4. How long does Maslenitsa usually last? — It usually lasts for a week, then Lent begins.
