My hobby is collecting dolls. I’ve got a matryoshka with a painting of the “Snow Maiden” on each doll. Can you tell me more about the Snow Maiden?

Dear Jeanne. “Snegurochka», or “The Snow Maiden «, is a well burwn Russian folk tale. Here’s our favourite version.

An old man and his wife had no children. They were very sad about this. “Let’s make a child out of snow,” said the man one day.
They made a pretty snow-girl. “Look!” said the woman. “Her lips are red and her eyes are open!” The snow-girl was alive!
The old couple were very happy. They called their new daughter Snegurochka. She was kind and polite. But she was pale and shy.
Summer came. Snegurochka was not well. “Go out to play,” her parents said. They were worried.
Snegurochka went to the forest with her friends. But it was very hot, and Snegurochka wasn’t happy.
“Let’s jump over a fire,” the girls said. Snegurochka jumped – and melted. She was gone forever.

Snegurochka, or the Snow Maiden, is a traditional Russian folk tale. An old man and his wife had no children, so they made a child out of snow. The snow-girl came to life. The old couple were very happy and called her Snegurochka. She was kind and polite, but pale and shy. In summer, Snegurochka was not well. She went to the forest with her friends, but it was very hot. The girls jumped over a fire, and Snegurochka melted and disappeared forever.

My favourite folk tale: The Fox and the Crane

Once upon a time, a fox invited a crane to dinner. The fox served soup on a flat plate, so the crane could not eat it. Later, the crane invited the fox to dinner and served food in a tall jug. The fox could not eat, but the crane enjoyed the meal. In the end, both animals learned to be polite and kind to others.
