Christopher Columbus was a famous Italian explorer. He was born in 1451. Columbus wanted to find a new sea route to India. In 1492 he sailed across the Atlantic Ocean with three ships: the Santa Maria, the Pinta and the Niña. On 12 October 1492, he reached the Bahamas. Columbus thought that he had found India, but in fact he had discovered America for Europeans. His voyage was very important in world history.
