what it was like at sea, what you saw in ‘the New World’, how you felt, what you think of Columbus.
ICT Collect information about another famous explorer. Use textbooks, encyclopaedias or the Internet. You can use these key words: famous explorers. Present your information to the class.
2. 1 – C, 2 – A, 3 – E, 4 – B. Extra heading: D.
3. expensive things — riches; left by boat — set sail; love — passion; journey by sea — voyage; laughed at — made fun of; bring in — import.
4. It was difficult and dangerous at sea. The weather was bad, and we were afraid of storms. We saw new lands, strange plants, and new people in the New World. I felt tired but excited. Columbus was brave and brilliant, and I think he was a great explorer.
5. Sample answer: I would like to tell you about Marco Polo. He was a famous explorer from Italy. He travelled to Asia and wrote about his journeys. His stories helped people learn more about the East.
