b) Review the words often used in the present perfect. They refer to any time up to now.
ever, never, often, recently, lately, already, before, yet, just
Compare:
I have never played tennis before. (never up to now)
I played tennis with Roy yesterday. (a finished event)
She has just met her classmates. (the moment is still going on)
She met her classmates two months ago when the holidays started. (a finished event)
Past Simple — for finished time: yesterday, in 2015, in spring/winter, on Monday, at 12 o’clock, last week/month/year, two days ago, when I was seven.
Present Perfect — for any time up to now: ever, never, often, recently, lately, already, before, yet, just.
Compare:
- I have never played tennis before. — never up to now.
- I played tennis with Roy yesterday. — a finished event.
- She has just met her classmates. — the action has happened very recently.
- She met her classmates two months ago. — a finished event in the past.
