3. Igor: I’ve heard that there is a person in the UK who has two birthdays? Is that right?
4. Pavel: I’ve read in many books that there are very interesting customs and traditions in Britain. Is that true?
5. Dima: What does ‘Sleep tight’ mean?
A. Moderator: The Queen is the most popular symbol of the UK. She is the only person in Britain with two birthdays: her real one and the official’ birthday. During her official’ birthday, there is a parade with hundreds of soldiers.
B. Moderator: Yes, that’s true. Britain is rich in customs and traditions. Some of them are well-known. A lot of them have very long histories. Some are funny and some are strange. There are many traditions connected to the Royal Family, sports, music and food. There are old songs, sayings and superstitions. They are all part of the British way of life.
C. Moderator: Some British people believe in good and bad luck. For example, black cats are lucky. A shamrock with four leaves brings good luck. The number ’thirteen’ is very unlucky.
D. Moderator: It is a saying which means ‘Good night’.
E. Moderator: I know that tea is popular all over the world. But the British drink a lot of tea. A cup of tea can wake you up in the morning and put you to sleep at night. If you are hot, tea cools you down and if you are cold, it warms you up.
