As a group, you are going to make a poster and to create a slogan to protect an endangered these steps animal in Russia. Work in groups of 3-4 to complete these steps.
Step 1
Look at the pictures and choose an endangered animal in Russia. If you want, use the internet to find another endangered animal.
Create a fact file about the endangered animal.
Use this plan:
1. Where it lives (location).
2. How long it lives (lifespan).
3. How many of these animals are living now.
4. Why they are dying out (endangered because of: harsh climate, hunters, etc.).
Step 2
— Find a photo or draw pictures of the animal. Write captions for the pictures.
— Invent a slogan for the protection of the animal.
— Make a poster using the materials you have collected.
Step 3
Present your group’s poster to your classmates. Tell them about the endangered animal you have chosen. Explain why it is necessary to save the animal.
Step 4
As a class, discuss all the posters and choose the best one.

Project: Endangered animals

We chose the Amur tiger.

Fact file:

• Location: It lives in the forests of the Russian Far East.
• Lifespan: It lives for about 15–20 years in the wild.
• Population: There are only about 500 Amur tigers left in the wild.
• Why it is endangered: It is dying out because of hunters, loss of habitat, and a harsh climate.

Captions for the poster:

• Beautiful and rare
• Lives in the Russian Far East
• Needs our protection

Slogan: Save the Amur tiger before it disappears!

Short presentation:

The Amur tiger is one of the rarest animals in Russia. It lives in the forests of the Russian Far East. This animal is endangered because people hunt it and destroy its habitat. We must protect the Amur tiger and help it survive for future generations.
