The RAP → Forum: Research Question & Answers

Work in pairs. Read the questions. Do you know the answers? Ask your friend. Does he know the answers? Then read the answers. Look up the new words in a dictionary if you need to.

1. Do people in different towns or cities of the UK have nicknames?
2. What is GMT?

1. Yes, they do. For example, Londoners born within the sound of Bow Bells are called Cockneys. A person who lives in Tyneside is called a Geordie. People from Liverpool are called Scouses.

2. GMT means Greenwich Mean Time. It is the current time on the Prime Meridian in Greenwich, London, and it is used as the basis for standard time in most countries.
