Australia is a large country and a continent at the same time. It is situated in the Southern Hemisphere, between the Indian and Pacific Oceans. The climate is different in different parts of the country: the north is hot and tropical, the centre is dry and desert, and the south has a milder climate. Australia is famous for its beautiful nature, such as the Great Barrier Reef, the Blue Mountains and many national parks.

There are many places of interest in Australia. Tourists often visit Sydney with its famous Opera House and Harbour Bridge. Canberra is the capital of Australia. Other important cities are Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth.

The Australian Aborigines are the native people of the country. They have a rich culture, traditions and art.

Australia is also known for its curious birds and animals: kangaroos, koalas, emus, platypuses and kookaburras. They are symbols of Australia and attract many visitors.
