English and American people sometimes can’t understand each other because they use different words for the same things. For example, in Britain people say flat, while in America they say apartment. Some words have different meanings too. They also pronounce words differently and sometimes use different spelling. Because of these differences, a British person and an American person may not always understand each other at once.
