People use English in America, Australia, Canada, and Great Britain as their mother tongue, but these “Englishes” are different. We can speak about American English, Australian English, Canadian English. People who live in Great Britain speak British English. Those who live in India speak Indian English. British English and American English are the most important kinds of the English language because people use them very widely. But they are not really that much different. You are learning British English, but if you meet people who come from the USA, you will be able to understand what they say. Probably you won’t understand everything, probably you will find that some words do not sound1 quite usual. You will certainly be able to say that these people are not British, but you will still be able to talk to them. It is so because the vocabulary and grammar2 of the language are very much the same. But some things have different names in Britain and America.
