Russia has a very rich flora and fauna. In the forests you can find birch, pine, spruce and oak trees. In the fields and meadows there grow grasses, wild flowers and berries. Near rivers and lakes there are reeds and water plants.

Common animals living in the fields are hares, foxes and hedgehogs. In the forests you can see bears, wolves, squirrels and deer. In the water there live fish, frogs and beavers.

Common birds include sparrows, tits, thrushes and nightingales. Water birds are ducks, geese and swans.

Some plants and animals have become symbols of Russia and Russian cities and towns. The birch is a symbol of Russia. The bear is also one of the symbols of our country. In some cities and towns, local plants and animals are used as symbols too.
