Z: Hiya, I’m going shopping — d’you wanna come?
L: No, I can’t — sorry — I’m in London!
Z: In London? Whafre you doing there?
L: I’m at the Notting Hill Carnival with my cousins. Its amazing!
Z: Yeah -I can hear it! What’s happening?
L: Well, we’re just watching the processions now — they’re coming down the road at the moment. People are playing the steel drums -you know, those big things — and everyone’s singing. It’s crazy!
Z: Are they all wearing bikinis, you know — like in Rio de Janeiro?
L: Well, kind of, but it isn’t as hot here as in Brazil — actually, ifs quite cloudy … But, yeah, the dancers are wearing costumes with big feathers, head-dresses, and …all bright colours … they look fantastic!
Z: So are you dancing then?
L: No, we’re not — we’re just watching! We’re standing on the street corner. There’s a little food stall with special Caribbean things — I’m eating a fish burger and they’re having some curried goat…
Z: What? I can’t hear you!
L: I said, I’m eating a fish burger! Ifs nice … Listen, I’ve gotta go. I’ll call you later, OK, when I get home?
Z: Yeah, OK. Have fun!
L: Yeah, thanks, have a good time shopping.
Z: See you!
L: Bye.
