In Britain, people often talk about the weather when they meet people they don’t know well. The weather is always changing so there’s lots to talk about!
1 (54) Dan is making conversation with Steve’s mum. Read and listen to the dialogue. Which things do they talk about?

Steve’s mum: Yes, come in. He’s just putting his bike in the garage.

Dan: Really? Well, I hope it’s nice at the weekend.

Steve’s mum: Good … Do you want a cup of tea?
Dan: No, I’m alright, thanks.

2 What was the weather like in London?
3 Was it hot in Britain?
4 Where was it stormy?
5 In your opinion, what season is it?
4 Draw a simple weather map of your country. Include three different cities and use some of these weather symbols.
5 Prepare a new dialogue. Use your map from exercise 4 and the Useful expressions.
6 Work in pairs. Practise your dialogue.
