J On today’s programme we are going to talk about an unusual holiday destination. We’re going to talk about Finland. If you’d like to learn more about this country then don’t go away. Our travel expert is going to speak to us about a very different kind of holiday.
ТЕ Thanks Jackie. Yes. Finland. It’s a beautiful country, but it isn’t the most popular place for a holiday.
J Why not?
ТЕ Well, ifs much colder than other places for a start. Finland gets a lot of snow in the winter and the temperatures can be extreme. People go fishing in the ice. You must wear warm clothes of course and you mustn’t stay outside too long.
J Fishing in ice … that is strange. What else are you going to tell us about Finland? What about our listeners who like sport? Do they play football in Finland?
ТЕ I’m sure they do play football, but one of their stranger sports is wife carrying.
J Sorry? What did you say?
ТЕ Yes, you heard correctly. I said wife carrying. Ifs just like a normal race … except that the competitors carry their wives.
J Well, I’d like to watch that! It sounds crazy.
ТЕ And if you visit Helsinki, you should visit the Zetor Restaurant.
J What’s special about the Zetor Restaurant?
ТЕ Well, they sell traditional Finnish food, but when you go inside you’ll have a surprise. The whole place looks like a farm. Some of the tables are old tractors.
