You and your foreign friend are talking about your schools. You go to a secondary school in London. You are in Year 7. You begin the conversation. Ask your Russian friend about his/her school and favourite subjects. Remember to ask about:
- the form he/she is in;
- the subjects he/she studies;
- his/her marks in different subjects;
- his/her favourite subjects;
- why he/she likes them.

You and your foreign friend are talking about your schools. Listen to your foreign friend. Answer his/her questions. Ask your friend about:
- his/her school;
- the subjects he/she studies;
- the rules at his/her school.
- Oral report. A group of foreign pupils has come on a visit to your school. What will you tell them about your school and your school life? Remember to say:
- what your school is like;
- what after-school activities there are at your school;
- what activities you take part in.
You have to talk for one minute. The teacher will listen to you until you have finished. Then he/she will ask you some questions.
1. Role play
— I really like going to school. I’m in the third form, and you?
— I’m in the seventh. Sorry, I don’t quite understand, I thought you were thirteen like me.
— I am. But in most English schools forms start only at the secondary school. What subjects do you study?
— My timetable is very busy. I study Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Geography, Russian and Literature. I really like P.E. and ICT, because I have most fun at those classes.
— Interesting! I have the same subjects, but we have Science instead of separate Physics and Chemistry, and we also study Music, Drama and Art. These are my favourites. And what do you like most of all, apart from P.E. and ICT?
— I like Maths, even though it is very difficult. It’s interesting to solve problems.
— Do you have good marks?
— Yes, I do. I have only 4s and 5s.
— What do you mean by 4s and 5s?
— They mean Good and Excellent.
— Oh, I understand. We say A’s and B’s.
— That’s interesting! I suppose your school is very different from mine. What is your school day like?
— Usually, we have an assembly every day before classes.
— What is an assembly?
— Oh, it’s just a meeting before school starts. I honestly think we could do without it. Teachers just remind us of the school rules.
— I’m curious what the rules are like.
— Just general school rules, like wearing a uniform, not bringing anything dangerous to school, being polite, and keeping the classroom tidy.
— Oh, I see. We have the same rules. I suppose our schools aren’t that much different!
2. Oral report
My school is a secondary school. It is quite big and modern. There are many classrooms, a library, a computer room and a sports hall. I like my school because it is friendly and comfortable.
There are different after-school activities at my school: a sports club, an English club, a music club and a drama club. We also have school competitions and concerts.
I take part in the English club and the sports club. I also sometimes help with school events. I enjoy my school life because it is interesting and active.
