Monday 10th August
Yesterday was the first day of my holiday, and it was tantastic! I left home at seven o’clock and arrived at Heathrow Airport at half past nine. 1 had breakfast in a restaurant at the airport. The flight to Orlando was very long, but there was lots to do. I saw two films: one was a western, the other was a comedy. I also slept a lot of Llie time. In fact, when we arrived in Orlando 1 didn’t feel tired at all. Ted met me at the airport and we went to his house, where we swam in his pool and played tennis. Then we ate hamburgers and drank milkshakes. In the afternoon we went to a ranch, and I rode a horse for the first time. It was amazing!
Why are all the verbs in Robert’s description of his day used in the Past Simple Tense?

All the verbs are used in the Past Simple Tense because Robert is talking about finished actions in the past. The words yesterday and Monday 10th August show that these events happened before now.

- to sleep — slept — slept
- to feel — felt — felt
- to meet — met — met
- to go — went — gone
- to swim — swam — swum
