Miklouho-Maclay was a Russian explorer and ethnographer. He travelled to many countries and spent several years in New Guinea, where he studied the life and customs of the local people. He was one of the first Europeans to live among the Papuans and to describe their culture in detail. Miklouho-Maclay believed that all people are equal, no matter what their race or appearance is. His work helped other people learn more about the peoples of the Pacific region.
