T090 Listen to the sentence stress and mark the stressed words. What parts of speech are stressed and which are not? Why is on in get on stressed?
1. I’ve been in Orlando for two weeks now, and I’m really enjoying myself!
2. Ted’s a great guy, and we get on really well.
3. Ted’s been living here since 2011.
4. Ted’s father is an expert on sharks.
5. Even though I’m having a good time here, I miss you all a lot.
6. I wish you were all here with me.

Stressed words are usually content words: nouns, main verbs, adjectives, adverbs, and some pronouns. Unstressed words are usually grammar words: articles, prepositions, auxiliary verbs, and conjunctions.

On in get on is stressed because it is part of a phrasal verb and changes the meaning of the verb.
