The Paralympic Games started after World War II as a sports event for injured soldiers. Later, they became an international competition for athletes with disabilities. The first official Paralympic Games were held in Rome in 1960.

The symbols are different too. The Olympic Games symbol is five interlocking rings, which stand for the unity of the five continents. The Paralympic symbol has three coloured agitos, which mean movement and the spirit of athletes with disabilities.
