Comparative forms are used to compare two people, things or actions. We usually add -er to short adjectives/adverbs, and use more with longer ones.
Superlative forms are used to compare one person, thing or action with all the others. We usually add -est to short adjectives/adverbs, and use the most with longer ones.
Examples:
- the tallest — short adjective + -est
- the funniest — short adjective + -est
- more intelligent — longer adjective + more
- the most attractive — longer adjective + the most
- more beautiful — longer adjective + more
- quicker — short adverb + -er
- more quietly — longer adverb + more
- the fastest — short adverb + -est
