In Russia, different sports are popular in different seasons. In winter, people like skiing, skating and ice hockey. In summer, many children and adults enjoy football, swimming, cycling and tennis.
People usually start practising sports at an early age. Many children begin to go in for sports at school or in sports clubs. Some of them start training when they are very young.
Sports are practised in different places: at school stadiums, in sports halls, on playgrounds, in swimming pools, on ice rinks and in special sports centres.
School sport is very important because it helps children stay healthy, strong and active. It also teaches them to work in a team, be disciplined and develop a strong character.
Russian athletes are well known on the international arena. They take part in the Olympic Games, world championships and other important competitions. Many Russian sportsmen and sportswomen have won medals and made their country proud.
