Arthur Conan Doyle was the writer who created Mr Holmes and Dr Watson. He was a Scottish writer and doctor. Conan Doyle was born in 1859 in Edinburgh. He studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh and later worked as a doctor.
He became famous for his detective stories about Sherlock Holmes. The first story about Holmes, A Study in Scarlet, was published in 1887. Conan Doyle also wrote adventure stories, historical novels, plays and poems.
Some other well-known books by Conan Doyle are The Sign of Four, The Hound of the Baskervilles and The Valley of Fear. Sherlock Holmes stories are still popular all over the world.
