Read and remember. People use two types of scales for measuring temperature: either Centigrade Celsius ($$^\circ\mathrm{C}$$) or Fahrenheit ($$^\circ\mathrm{F}$$). Celsius is a scale of temperature in which water freezes at $$0^\circ$$ and boils at $$100^\circ$$. $$32^\circ$$ Fahrenheit is equal to $$0^\circ$$ Celsius. In Britain both scales are used: Celsius and Fahrenheit. In the USA temperatures are measured in Fahrenheit. In Russia temperatures are measured in Celsius. $$40^\circ\mathrm{F}=(40^\circ-32^\circ):1{,}8=4{,}4^\circ\mathrm{C}$$
Example: Yesterday it was 6 above zero = It is was plus 6 degrees Centigrade. Today it is 7 below zero = It is minus 7 degrees Centigrade. It will be $$69^\circ$$ Fahrenheit tomorrow.

40°F = (40° — 32°) : 1.8 = 4.4°C
